Adorned in Traditional Kanchipuram Silk Saree, Nita Ambani Highlights Indian Craft at President-elect Trump's Reception

The custom-designed saree, crafted by National Award-winning artisan B. Krishnamoorthy, showcases intricate motifs such as the Iruthalaipaksh, Mayil, and the mythical Sorgavasal animal trails, all carefully selected for their cultural significance.

As dignitaries from across the globe gathered in Washington, D.C., for President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration, Nita Ambani, Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, made an elegant appearance at a private reception held in his honor.

Draped in a traditional Kanchipuram silk saree by Swadesh, the design was the result of extensive research, incorporating over 100 significant traditional patterns inspired by the spiritual and historical grandeur of Kanchipuram temples. Complementing the saree, she wore exquisite 18th-century Indian heritage jewelry, symbolizing India’s rich cultural legacy. According to a statement by Reliance Foundation, her ensemble carried the essence of Indian artistry to an international platform.

To add a modern flair, the saree was paired with a velvet blouse by Manish Malhotra, featuring a high neckline and intricate beadwork along the sleeve hems. Completing the look was a 200-year-old pendant crafted in Southern India, shaped like a parrot and adorned with emeralds, rubies, diamonds, and pearls set in gold Kundan technique with delicate red and green enamel. Through this thoughtfully curated attire, Nita Ambani celebrated the timeless elegance of Indian traditions, honoring the unparalleled skills of Indian artisans and spotlighting their craftsmanship on a global stage.

Earlier, Nita Ambani, along with Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, extended their congratulations to President-elect Trump during the private reception. They expressed their hope for strengthening India-US relations and wished him a transformative leadership term in the White House.

The Ambanis also highlighted the potential for deeper collaboration between the two nations and the world under Trump’s presidency. They are scheduled to attend the inauguration ceremony on January 20 at the U.S. Capitol, where they will have a prominent seating arrangement alongside Cabinet nominees, elected officials, and other distinguished guests.

Arriving in Washington, D.C., on January 18, the couple joined the inaugural celebrations, which began with a reception and a grand fireworks display at Trump National Golf Club in Virginia.
