PM Modi Presents Banarasi Saree to Mauritius First Lady
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Mauritius on March 11-12, 2025, as the chief guest for the country's National Day celebrations. His visit highlights the deep-rooted diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties between India and Mauritius. As part of the celebrations, he will engage in high-level discussions with Mauritius President Dharam Gokhool and Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam.
India and Mauritius share a historical bond, with a large Indian-origin community residing in the island nation. During his visit, PM Modi will inaugurate key projects, including the Civil Service College and an Area Health Centre, both funded through India’s grant assistance. These projects emphasize India’s commitment to Mauritius' development across various sectors, including education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

A contingent of the Indian Defence Forces and an Indian Navy ship will participate in the celebrations, symbolizing the strong maritime and strategic partnership between the two nations. The visit will also see the exchange of multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing cooperation in trade, security, and governance.
PM Modi’s presence in Mauritius also reflects India’s broader Vision SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region), which seeks to strengthen maritime ties and regional security in the Indian Ocean. His interactions with the Indian diaspora in Mauritius will further reinforce the cultural and emotional connection between the two countries.
As a mark of honor, Mauritius will confer its highest civilian award on PM Modi, making him the first Indian leader to receive this recognition. This visit reaffirms India’s role as a key development partner for Mauritius and highlights the strong diplomatic relations between the two nations.
